Shannon
Shannon has been helping individuals and families navigate recovery from substance use and mental health challenges since 1988. She became a licensed clinical social worker in 1991 and has held national certifications in both addictions counseling and clinical supervision. Over the years, she has not only provided direct care but also trained and mentored the next generation of clinicians as a faculty member at Mercer University School of Medicine.
Shannon brings warmth, practicality, and humor into her work, offering evidence-based care with a deeply human touch. She is trained in CBT, TF-CBT, DBT, and EMDR, and has worked effectively with clients ranging in age from 5 to 95. Whether someone is just beginning their recovery journey or has weathered many storms, Shannon meets them where they are - with hope, compassion, and a focus on strengths.
Her philosophy is grounded in the belief that:
- Substance use and mental health conditions are brain-based illnesses—not moral failings—and respond well to evidence-based treatment.
- Treatment works, and recovery is a realistic, attainable outcome.
- Recovery is possible for anyone; as long as there’s breath, there’s hope.
Outside of her clinical work, Shannon enjoys time with family and friends, exploring music, and traveling.
